Four Tips on how I Cope with Anxiety
That of course may look different to everyone. For example, reading self-help books, watching makeup tutorials, taking myself out to eat, writing, traveling, binge watching tv shows on Hulu, are just some of the activities I engage in for self-care.
3. Improve thoughts and self-talk: Our thoughts and words are extremely POWERFUL. Unconsciously, we can get into the unfortunate habit of spewing out negative self-talk, overtime becoming a part of who we “think” we are. That’s why it’s essential to be more self-aware, replacing illogical statements and/or thoughts with a more positive statement.
Furthermore, speaking daily affirmations is also a huge plus. Who knew that saying positive phrases such as
“I am more than a conqueror” could start my day out on the right foot, as well as cause me to actually believe those words? I’d recommend coming up with 10 positive affirmations to say daily, posting them as sticky notes on your bathroom mirror and/or setting them as your phone screen saver to serve as a daily reminder to repeat them.
4. Engage in healthy coping skills: When I say coping skills, I mean healthy ones. Some people may choose to cope with their problems by having sex, drinking, partying too much etc., but in reality that only masks the problems. And that my friend can lead to a whirlwind of emotions such as depression, anger, unworthiness, etc. However, choosing healthy coping skills has been key to overcoming anxiety and unexpected issues.
Even though I’m not flexible what so ever, I began doing yoga, which was quite relaxing after a long and sometimes stressful day at work. Although I'm still pretty inconsistent with working out, being active in the gym was also beneficial to battling anxiety. Oh, and let's not forget writing! Blogging has proven to be one of the best ways I have coped with my feelings. Being able to acknowledge, express, and process my feelings has led to profound healing.
